Organizers of the 16th WCPH
The 16th World Congress on Public Health takes place every two or three years and is organized by the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA) in collaboration with the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) and the Italian Society of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health (SItI).
The WFPHA is an international, nongovernmental organization composed of over 115 member associations, mostly multidisciplinary national public health associations, and representing around 5 million public health professionals worldwide. It is the only worldwide professional society representing and serving the broad field of public health. WFPHA’s mission is to promote and protect global public health. It does this throughout the world by supporting the establishment and organizational development of public health associations and societies of public health, through facilitating and supporting the exchange of information, knowledge and the transfer of skills and resources, and through promoting and undertaking advocacy for public policies, programs and practices that will result in a healthy and productive world. The WFPHA was established in 1967 and is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
The European Public Health Association, or EUPHA in short, is an umbrella organisation for public health associations and institutes in Europe. EUPHA was founded in 1992 by 15 members. EUPHA now has 81 members from 47 countries. EUPHA is an international, multidisciplinary, scientific organisation, bringing together around 19,000 public health experts for professional exchange and collaboration throughout Europe. EUPHA encourages a multidisciplinary approach to public health. EUPHA seeks to support its members to improve health in Europe, adding value to the efforts of stakeholders in regions and states, in national and international organisations, and individual public health professionals. EUPHA’s mission is to facilitate and activate a strong voice of the public health network by enhancing visibility of the evidence and by strengthening the capacity of public health professionals. EUPHA is dedicated to working in partnership with European and international intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations. EUPHA is based in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
The Italian Society of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health (SItI) is an organisation dedicated to the promotion and protection of collective human health and wellbeing. Founded in 1878 by Gaetano Pini, membership has grown to more than 2,000 today, with individual members working in universities, local health authorities (Departments of Prevention and Districts) and health directorates of hospitals. The organization has its headquarter in Rome and counts on 15 regional Sections. Its mission is to achieve advances in the fields of epidemiology, public health, community health, health services organization, management and health economics and to encourage the development of cultural and professional activities of prevention, to enhance the role and qualifications of public health professionals, and to promote health education activities. SItI collaborates with institutions, practicioners, foundations and other scientific associations to promote research and publishes books, guidelines and protocols. Advocacy is performed at national, regional and local level. In recent years SItI has played an important role in supporting vaccination policies in Italy. Together with other scientific associations, SItI publishes the lifetime immunization schedule every second year, which was the basis for national and regional vaccination plans.
